Default Is this cam worth it?

I am debating which cam to go with...basically I am looking for a low-lift cam that has a nice lope to it (I have an M6), keeping in mind that I cannot do LS1 Edit for a while. I was thinking of the Hotcam...but then I heard ppl get the flashing SES light at idle and other problems running rich, etc. Then, I was thinking of going with this cam :Comp Cams LS1 Camshaft - 218 / 224 .527 / .534 114 LSA. How will this cam idle on a M6 w/o LS1 Edit. Also, will LS6 springs work well with this cam and can I use stock pushrods? Thanks.

Note: My current mods are lid, S2 TB, Mac Headers, H pipe

Cam selection is a lot of personal choice and what your want combined with matching the other parts you have.

The is the smallest aftermarket cam I would consider is a TR-220. It actually has less overall duration than the 218/224 and faster ramps so the TR-220 should idle better than the 218/224. The TR-220 is an excellent cam and well worth considering for your application. It will make more power than the 218/224. The TR cam only has slightly more lift .553than the 218/224 .534 or .019 difference.

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 220/220 .553/.553 114 LSA 1500-6500 RPM Power Band. Computer Tuning Required with automatic transmission cars. A very well balanced camshaft that makes excellent power across the entire RPM range. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

I have a friend with the hotcam and no tuning. The car lopes hard and hunts for idle. I think the TR-220 would be easier to live with personally.

I not a fan of stock push rods as they flex more (according to Katech) and result in less control of the valve train. Good springs and not missing shifts will protect way better than weak pushrods.

How does the idle from a T1 cam compare to a Hotcam? I have a T1 sitting in my house right now...but I wasn't sure if I wanted to put in a cam w/ that much lift. I might consider putting the T1 cam in....if it idles better than the Hotcam.

Others will correct if I'm wrong.

Per Speed Inc

LS1 "HOT CAM" KIT
Genuine GM part, up to 30 horsepower gain. Rough idle quality, makes power from idle to 6000 rpm. Includes springs. Automatic cars will need throttle body hole enlargement or PCM tuning.

98-02 LS1 GM12480033 Lift: .525/.525 Dur@.050: 218/227 LSA: 112

I think the hotcam has slower ramps than the T1. The LSA is the same. The T1 has more lift. The T1 has a good bit less overall duration 221/221 vs 218/227. The hotcam has exhaust duration it doesn't really need on a car with headers and less intake duration.

I would expect the T1 to idle a better than the hot cam. The 3 additional degress of intake duration the T1 has won't hurt the idle anywhere near as much as the extra 6 degrees of exhaust duration will hurt the hotcam's idle. I would expect the T1 to make more power.

The T1 would be harder on valve springs but your getting something for it.

I'd take the T1 anytime over the 218/224 or Hotcam myself.
