HELP!! Broke oil pan bolt
I was reinstalling my oil pan and one of the long 6-8 inch rear bolts broke. What does this hold (oil baffle?). And if I seal up the hole will it be ok to run/drive? I really don't want to lift the motor and extract the broken piece unless it is viltal to engine operation/ saftey.Any help would be great, thanks guys!

Re: HELP!! Broke oil pan bolt
4000+ miles since I broke that very bolt during my cam install, no problems yet (oil leakage or other) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I have read plenty of threads on the subject, apparently it's not a big problem...

Re: HELP!! Broke oil pan bolt
Maybe the other guys have been lucky, but I had one of them stripped out on my rear cover and it was leaking big time. Smoking going down the track. I ended up countersinking the bolt slightly to make it reach good threads. Now it is sealed and no leaks.
I have the high volume oil pump form ARE, and that may make a difference since my oil pressure shoots up to about 60-70 under hard acceleration.

Thanks soooooooo much guys for the replies. Yesterday when that freakin bolt <img border="0" alt="[bomb]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bomb.gif" /> I <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" /> . I was sooooo freakin <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> I think that I will just leave it sealed with RTV and keep an eye on it. thanks again guys. I'm still trying to figure out why GM didn't use the other side of that damn oil pump to connect the tube? It's already freakin threaded!!!, and would not require you to drop the pan! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Re: HELP!! Broke oil pan bolt
I did the same thing a few thousand miles ago. I thought I was torquing everything correctly, just like the manual read, but I guess the rear two long bolts are not "regular" oil pan bolts!
Anyways, mine has been bone dry, and I'm leaving it the way it is...
2002snortbird, too bad we didn't have an "anger <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> cam" setup while we broke those damn bolts, because I was flipping! It would be funny to see who got madder!!!
