Cool New cam, idle vid...

Long story short, I got a few new upgrades over the winter.
I need an updated tune, the old 224/224 cam tune is not up to snuff for the new cam. I just got the car going this weekend, I'll get it tuned in a few weeks...The new cam is a Speed Inc SI5 (231/237, .589/.595 on a 112 LSA).

After a few minutes the idle surge pretty much is gone, it loads up a little at stop lights, but it doesn't die.

Beating you like a 6th ave Hooker...

Two questions...

1) Idle Surge is the rpms going up and down

2) Does idle surging only happen on untuned cams? or the monster duration ones?

Sorry for the stupid quetions, Thanks

The "surge" is the idle going up & down. You'll probably get it with any untuned cam, probably going to be worse the bigger you go. When I get the tune fixed up, the surge will be gone.

Even on my old tune, the cam seems to have real good mid range, it is not only a top end performer. I am pretty sure this is the cam that was in Larry from Speed Inc's blue Z06, his car hauled...

I can't wait to do some WOT pulls & put it through the gears hard!

I've seen some graphs on here around 400rwhp on M6 cars.

My car was an A4 with TEA 5.3 heads, it made 420/388.

A4 guys with SI5 cam: what stall are you running? 3500? How are the street manners with this setup?

I have an Ed Curtis Cam close to specs like the MS3 and a 3400 stall its all in the tune. My tuner is bad ***. While in idle the car has a mean lope but on the street it feels like stock. No surge, no bog no need to put her in neutral. I am running an RPM stage IV 4L60E
