Did you flycut when you put the combo together? What head gaskets are you running? If you like the MS3 but would just like a little more down low, you should have opted for the MS4. Supposedly it makes a little more down low. If you are trying to maximize what you can without having to flycut, I would go with something around the 228/232 range and get your compression up where it needs to be with thinner head gaskets if you have not done that already. The setup i chose but am still waiting on the Caddy lifters and timing set for are the same 2.5 5.3's you have, with a custom 227/234 LSK/XER 641/598 110+2 with Cometic .040 gaskets.I hope it will be the right combo to maximize power just about everywhere.

I say the 224/.581 114. It's nnot real hard on the valvetrain & it makes great power. Its the cam I chose for my build after talkin to a local guy. He had this cam with full bolt-ons & ported stock heads. He ran consistant mid to low 11's with a 12-bolt.

If you want great drivability this is one of the best cam choices. Its been power & E.T. proven time & time again.

my car did 385 rwhp through the automatic with stock 98 heads on it with a t1 cam. (221 221 .558 .558 lsa112+4) driveablitiy was excellent, gas mileage was better, and the car made peak power at about 6100. part of that is the 112 lsa, but they do sell a b1, which is the same cam on a 114. that will move the peak up abit.

Im thinking the 228/232 110+2 DOT TO FREAKIN DOT.....how's that sound fellas?
BTW, blew up my 10 bolt yesterday on an 1/8th mile track

I know that 10 bolt was on borrowed time. what are you going to replace it with?

I would probably still go a tad lower on the cam specs for what you want.

We both knew it was on borrowed time lololol....I actually have my eyes set on a Moser 9", not sure whether or not I want to go True trac or Detroit Locker though....not sure how ***** out the car will be as I am building a forged block soon...hmm

Thoughts?

As far as the cam goes, you think I shoudl go smaller huh? How bout a good ole fashioned 224/224 on a 112 with a healthy shot??

I'd go with the 228 cam but on a 112 for a lower powerband and a choppier idle than 114

The 9 inch will work very well with the tru trak for what you got, also the shipping on the 9 inch is less than a 12 bolt as the 9 inch will come in 2 pieces, compared to one. Hit me up when you are looking for one.

What are your plans for the shortblock you are wanting to build? FI or NA.

I would like to see you use something in the 224-228 range. It will bring your peak numbers down for drivability. I like my cam but I actually wish I would of gone with something smaller. Numbers don't mean anything- it all comes from the numbers under the curve, but I know you already know that.

All cams will work great with spray as long as you are keeping the shot under 300.

Hey Mike,
Well, to be honest, I am looking for a rear now lol jus dont knwo if I can find the funds for it, what can you do for me?
I need the 9" that works with 4 channel as I am keeping TCS and all...you sure true trac will be strong enough, even when a forged motor goes in there one day?

(Oh yeah, I aquired an '01 ls1 from a bud-had a spun bearing- for like $100...couldn't pass it up! I plan on cleaning the block up, forging the rot. assembly, and probably build it for a heafty shot of n20....I just dont see the funds for FI coming anytime soon...I believe my FI days will be further down the road...)

As far as the cam goes...well I dont know...the whole purpose of this swap is because I am unhappy that I didnt break 400 ft lbs of torque...WTF! Is it true that even though my peak power will drop say 20-30 HP, my TRQ will inrease to over 400 and driveability will greatly improve?!?! If not then I feel that I am wating my time here and I shoudl just keep what I have, continue to have the tune tweaked and throw say a 50 shot on there for fun.....
Let me know man...thanks!

made a phone call, should hear back tomorrow for ya.

Even if you change cams out you will probably go down in TQ. but not by much. You made some decent TQ. so don't worry about 400 as you are very close. Its not all peak remember that.

Also what gears did you have in the rear, as a set of 4.10 or 3.73's would work well. If you were on the stocker 3.42 that could be adding to hating the tune for the moment, as you would get soem surging at lower rpm's.

I've got the 224/224 114 and the driveability is excellent.

I like the idea of the 228/228 on a 114 for the spray, but also because that is what I am going to put in my Z06. We are on our 3rd cam with the Camaro so I want something a bit more tame for the Vette.
