Default forged 346 advice

im planning a forged 346 build. i know the parameters i want but dont know exactly the parts that would yield my desires. Id like to have 11-1 compression and use trick flow heads, TFS are 64 cc chambers unmilled. Cam im not sure on yet as I dont know my final static compression. Ill use the stock crank and compstar rods, pistons id like to use MAHLE or JE but dont know what compression they will yield as Mahle just lists cc of valve releifs. The pistons also determine if I use a 6.125 rod or a 6.098 rod. I know I can mill to increase compression but depending on the cam I might not have enough PTV clearence. This will be a daily driver car, that ill take to the drag strip everyonce in a while, Id like to have spray on it as well, dont know how much I can go with 93 octane.

The Trickflows will have generous P/V clearance due to the 13.5 degree angle. With decent valve reliefs, P/V clearance shouldn't be an issue since you won't want that big of a cam for a daily driver.

I'd recommend flattop pistons to get the compression you want. With unmilled Trickflows, .038" gasket, and a 0 deck height, I have you at 10.79:1. You could mill the heads to get 11:1, but to get as tight as of a quench as possible (more power, resistance to detonation), deck the block to a negative deck height. -.008" will put you right at 11:1. This means the pistons will sit .008" above the block.

For a cam, I have some ideas of what you'd want, but you didn't specify if you have to pass emissions. You may want to pay $35 to have Patrick G spec you a cam, and you'll then get a discounted price on any cam from Thunder Racing. Trust me, Pat know's his stuff.

BigDB-talk to the person that building your motor.

99SS-FYI LS1 pistons are already .006-.007 out of the hole. Off the shelf aftermarket LS1 pistons are out of the hole also.

Didn't know that. I actually heard the opposite on here. Thanks for the info though.
