Default Cam problems (help please)

I just had a Z06 cam, z06 intake, and Jet Hot headers installed. It only gave me 28 hp increase. I dyno'd 308 with lid and borla and now 326 on the same dyno. I have really sloppy idle and misfires (SES) on #4 and #5.

I replaced plug wires, swapped coils around to see if misfires followed coil.

I'm wondering if the cam I got was really a 02 Z06 cam or if it was something else. Either way is expensive 28 hp.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Shouldn't I see much better numbers then this? LSA of 117 should have a smooth idle and no misfires.

Check your spark plug wires to make sure they are snug. What springs did you use?
If you didn't use the ZO6 springs and your plugs and wires are fine, you could have broken a valve spring. If you want to check, pull the valve covers off and look at all the springs to make sure they didnt' break.
I wouldn't expect my more power than what you go if you used either the '01 or '02 ZO6 cam.

How long has this combo been installed? You need to give your PCM some time to adjust. When you did your dyno pulls, what was your A/F ratio? You might be able to pick up quite a bit w/ just a little tuning.

I replaced all the plug wires and misfires are still there I made sure all are snug. Springs are Z06, ti retainers, manley hardened 7.45 PR's.
People are making more power then me with just headers.

Yea, I'm sure the cam was installed right. It may be the wrong cam though. Anyone else?

that's very odd...did you get the cam from a manufacture or from a person used?could be the wrong cam but also if it was the wrong cam and your idle is choppy it could be a bigger cam than the z06 and you should have seen a slightly higher power increase...go out and slap some NGK-tr55 plugs in it and re-dyno with a-tap on board with you and see if your getting missfire on the top end as well as idle and with the a-tap check for knock retard...also make sure to adjust air fuel accordingly as needed and if all else fails go back and degree the cam to make damn sure it's a z06 cam..if it is zo6 then try tweaking your TPS a tad to adjust for idle and just make sure when you go dyno keep an eye on the air fuel mixture with a wide band 02...that's all my suggestions! lol good luck,

carter

others who have installed this cam have used 7.4" rods. Since you used 7.45", I wonder if it might be related to your rough idling. (too much pre-load pressure on the valve springs ?) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

carter,
The misfires clear up on both 4 and 5 as the rpm's increase, the 02's are reading 940 - 960 at WOT.
rick,
7.45 is what is actually recommended by GM if using the Z06 in the LS1. The cam installer agreed and said they looked fine when doing the install.
I'll be swapping out the plugs to see if maybe they are damaged. That may help my idle, but I don't think it will give me the missing hp.
