no the 40 is thicker than the 30 and the 0w is not needed in texas weather...so 0-40 m1 is perfect

and post links to sound clips for me...i want to hear!

ROYAL PURPLE F.T.W!!!

and bryant wat are you talking bout u need the 5w for hot start ups? its thinner for COLD startups so that it can circulate faster.. and once it warms up its at 40. if you run straight 40 it will always be at that hot or cold. i think cuz of our texas weather a straight 40 or 50 weight would be just fine.. ive always used mobil... ive used royal purple once, and redline once.. no complaints!

Has anyone here ever tried Amsoil 0W30? I have used it for about 100K now and it's the best at quieting valvetrain noise and producing a little extra hp.

Stick with a synthetic in the 40 weight range and focus on other stuff. Between Mobil 1 0W40, 5W40 diesel, or German Syntec (what I run) you can't go wrong. Which ever is easiest to find run it and move on. These oil threads are one of the most creative wastes of time in this section.

You should not be using anything heavier than a 30 weight oil. I don't care what type of oil you use just don't use 40 weight, the LS1/6 engine is designed with very tight tollerances. 40 weight oil is too thick to make maximum hp and efficiency.

I am using 5w30 Mobil1 and my piston slap issues have gotten worse. Any recomendations if I should switch to 0w40 Mobil1 or something else. I was leaning towards GC but now I don't know if I already have issues with noise and piston slap.....
