Default Steam hole plumbing.. required or blocked off?

I keep hearing about plumbing the steam holes and already have about 1000 miles on my coupe with no overheating or any other apparent ploblems with them blocked off. Just curious if it will do/cause any damage I could not detect at first.

The idea of the steam hole is to allow air pockets/steam to vent out. Steam holes are supposed to be at the highest point of the system to allow it to bubble out. I doubt very much you will overheat the entire engine by blocking them off completely but you run a risk of creating an air pocket and suffering isolated heat problems that will not always show up on your temp gauge but can cause engine failure.

If they were not needed do you honestly think GM would spend a nickel more money by adding them?

Hook it up your playing with fire...er steam..

Its good to have atleast the front crossover pipe. the 2001+ cars did away with the rear ones. Theyre blocked off from the factory.
