Default Crank Pulley Bolt?

Ok help me out fella's need a Crank Pulley Bolt for my cam swap:

GM Part #12557840

Anybody know a place that will see the part WITHOUT the $11 handeling fee? It's a $3 bolt, plus the $11 handeling charge PLUS $4 shipping! outrageous! And that won't take two weeks to ship it?

Thanks guys!

Hell, find someone offering free shipping and buy the ARP bolt at that price.

Your local hardware or fastener store. 16mmX2mmX103mm is stock. You can use a longer one (120mm) to initally get the pulley started onto the crank snout unless you buy one of the nice pusher tools that are sold on this site.

Ditto. My local dealer had it in stock. No prob - just call around. But, if you need to put the balancer back on, you're gonna need a longer bolt to get it started. NAPA had one of those in stock, too. Made life much easier to re-install the balancer. Good luck!

I had a difficult time finding a longer bolt to get my pulley started. The hardware stores I checked with did not carry any metric bolts near that size. I ended up ordering one from a fastener supplier and all they could get for me without making it into a $pecial order was a socket head cap screw. I had to come up with a 17mm allen wrench (another hard thing to find) to drive it. The bolt was $6 but I also had to buy large washers, 10 in a pack for another $6. After all the running around I think the person selling the speciality tool they have been making is a pretty fair deal.

The tool becomes an even better deal if you're going to do multiple cam swaps. I got my longer bolts at a small mom and pop hardware store that serves the marine industry. This tiny little store that could fit in the corner of one of the big chain hardware stores, but has a much better fastener selection than the big stores ever did. Next time you remove the crank pulley try using a big allen head cap screw with some large flat washers under the head to buck your 3 leg puller rod up against. The allen head cap screw forces the puller rod to be self-centering. Without the cap screw the rod has a tendency to walk. Believe it or not some guys on this site have just bucked their puller rod directly up against the crank bolt threads(bolt removed). Next thing you know you're reading a post about how they've damaged their crank threads or got the puller rod wedged into the crank and they don't know what to do next. Someone with that level of expertise have a yard sale to get rid of their tools and just pay the extra cost to have someone who knows what they are doing install the cam for them.

I'm having a hard time with that because the threads in my LS1 crank start at least 2 inches down into the snout. I don't know how you could even get to the threads with the puller center force.

I used a puller with a tapered cone force directly on the end of the snout. There was no way I could come anywhere near the threads.

Here's the longer bolt I was able to come up with.
