Default Head removal to change lifters?

Do the cylinder heads need to be removed to change the lifters? What are the best lifters for ls1?

Default Heads must come off!

You need to pull the heads to get to the lifters.

LS7 lifters, Morel's, Comp 850's, or the very scarce Carry lifters are good choices.

Werd. Thats what I'm goin with also. They are all thats available for a OEM lifter replacement now & they actually happen to be a upgrade.

I would do it just for piece of mind. I know I'd be pissed if thats what didn't get replaced & then crapped out on me a couple months later. You'll already be in there, so might as well do it.

No, they are different. The Cadillac Racing lifters are probably the best out there, though. If you can get a hold of a set.

Incorrect to a certain extent. After talkin to Matt@SDPC, the LS7 lifters are the only LS1 replacement lifter from GM available now. No more original LS1 lifters unless your local dealer still has some.

The part # for a set of 16 LS7 lifters is 12499225.

The individual lifter is 17122490.

There is a thread talking about the LS7 lifters being 0.050 longer which in turn requires shorter push-rods. I'd use a push-rod checker to verify the correct push-rod length if using the LS7 lifters.

Yea I have read that too, but "accord" to GM they should drop right in & are the only lifters offered considered to be a GM OEM replacement. But I understand what your sayin too.

I thought the cadillac lifter were the longer ones. SDPC told me they where a direct fit.
