You can build a LT1 to scoot, mine was a fast little **** for what it was. It's sold now, on to bigger and better..
You won't be disappointed with the car payment that you don't have.

If I was on a limited budget right now, I would buy an econo box considering gas is over $3.00 a gallon.

Not as fast as the LS1 but the 6spds are still capable of 13's stock...Like said they can be modded to be very fast....LS1 is faster the LT1 and the terminator can kill the LS1, theres always someone or something faster...Its not like your settleing for a mini van

The above mentioned camshafts probablly won't pass smog. Espeacially the 306. I've never been a fan of the 300 series LT-1 cams anyway. The XE line was always my favorite. The XE 224/230 would be a nice cam in that car that could probablly be tuned to pass emissions. That with some LE-2 heads and you'd have a nice budget LT-1. You should pass on the LT-4 heads. I've never seen a stock bottom end auto do anything with those. You should deffinatlly pick the car up if it seems like a good buy. The opti is a easy replacement, but stay away from auto zone. Either pick up a new one from GM parts direct or drop the extra dough and get the MSD replacement and not worry about it any more. The LT-1 can be made to hang with the LS-1 crowd to an extent. It will have alot better feel around town from stop light to stop light. They produce TQ way down low and it feels good. I had my stock short block running 11.80's before I sold it. That was on a XE-230/236. I was running 12.40's on the hotcam.

$500 would be a great deal assuming the major stuff is in check. If for some reason you don't get that car and you still want something fast, skip an LT1. For the cost to build one and the fact they're even harder to work on than LS1's, it'll be a disapointment for sure.

I would actually rather have a fox body Mustang to be quite honest. They're much easier to work on, cheap to build, and they're set up alot better for drag racing with the 8.8 rear and upper control arms. Most people throw cheap or dated parts on which is why we run into alot of slow ones that are cammed. But if you're smart with mods, a well mannered street 306 can run low 11's. just a thought

sweet. so how hard is a cam instal on lt1s? i was thinking of getting a fox but the ones around where i live are all beat an on 22's an just ruined.. i have yet to find one that i would even consider. i will look into that xe cam for sure.

i will go get the right part from gm also. but what all do i need? just the distributor? or the distributor an the module? i dont know if the accel one comes with both.. iv never studied lt1s. never thought id get one. but 500 bux sounds good. i just need alil 2 cents on what to get parts wise to get her running.

No. If it comes down to it you could fix it up a bit and flip it for quite a bit more.

Either way the LT1 platform is easier to get power out of for much less than an LS or SS. The 94' also have less restrictions and more room to work on than most think, my 97' TA is harder to work on than the 93' Z28

Just get a non-vented opti and you are good to go.

I have to disagree here. You can get worked LS6 castings brand new assembled for barely over $1k that'll support alot more hp than Lloyd Elliot LT1's. His LE 2 packages are around $1700 and you still need rockers, pushrods, and lifters. Best case scenario on a fresh 355 or 383 with that is 400-420rwhp at most, about what a cam only LS1 will make.

As someone who was long suspicous of LSX engines up to the day I bought my car in late 04, I'm happy to admit I was wrong.

I think he was taking the price of the car into the equation also. If you are going to put some money in your Lt1 you should do some searching around on camaroz28.com its more Lt1 friendly, as for Lt1 specific stuff. I wouldn't say you are going to be more disappointed with an Lt1, you just have to get the right mods for them. I personally fell caming a Lt1 without porting the heads is pointless cost wise. I would get long tubes, 4.10's, cutout, tune and some N20 instead of a cam and see if that car doesn't move under its weight nicely.
