Weird oil pressure....Help Please

Default Weird oil pressure....Help Please

ok, Im new, Ive read all the other threads about this, but I was wanting fresh opinions on my particular situation.
1998 LS1 with all bolt ons, ported heads, cam, and slp oil pump. done at Speed Inc.

all of a sudden at idle I have no oil pressure, i can rev the engine and get it to go up to 40-50 or somethin. and then it will drop back down slowly. The SLP oil pump was put on by speed inc in '04 at approximatly 80k. car now has a bit over 100k on it now.

I would appreciate all input, I think Ill take the pan off and check things out....
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be the sensor took or is taking a dump.

Located at the rear of the motor behind the intake manifold.

put a mechanical gauge on it...i thought i was having oil pressure issues so i put an autometer gauge on it and pressure was fine

alright, that makes sense... does anyone know what the best way to do that is? is there an easily reacheable place??

when my oil pump went out the pressure would randomly be high or low. Then on startup I wouldn't have any pressure

Alright, well when I first noticed the pressure drop I could rev it and get the pressure to rise momentarily, now it wont read anything but zero and i have alot of noise at the top of my engine. so Im thinking oil pump. but Ive got a SLP thats 3 years old on it.
I have no idea what im looking for to take the oil sending unit off so i can test the oil pressure. is there a possibility of a spun bearing with 100k miles and a cam??

ruined all my weekend plans...

If you have no oil pressure do not rev it until you know it's the sending unit. I wouldn't even run it. If the top end is making a lot of noise, that is a sign of low oil pressure. No oil getting to the lifters and valve train.

There is always the possibility of a spun bearing, but the noise would seem to come from the bottom end. There are two ways, that I know of to hook up a mech. gauge. Either from the sending unit, behind the intake manifold, under the cowl. Or right above the oil filter there is a hook up point, You could also remove your stock sending unit and, with a mirror, check for oil flow with the engine running.

Pull the valve covers and see if you got oil.

Doesn't sound good though.
