Most aggressive cam for my 436
I was just trying to see how much bigger I can possibly go. This thing idles so damn smooth, I could go to a bigger cam if it's worth the RWHP I would gain.
The reason I'm asking about the bigger cam is because I didn't expect the motor to literally idle like a factory stock LS1. SO, I could go bigger and still live with the idle if it's worth the power gains over this one.
I'm just curious because if this is a pretty big cam like you say it is, how much bigger is there?
And I'll be running it at the track a couple weeks later.
Why dont you just give Wade at ARE a call, and see what he reccomends. They deal with different cams in the large cube motors all the time. I'm sure they can come up with something.
I plan to switch the cam later in the year. I might be willing to do some experimenting with the cam that you are running right now. I'd pay the shipping, if you want to send it up to Mich. I'm always curious what different cams will do. Your's, while mild in your engine, should make a little more rumble in my 393.
My guess is that you would gain at least 10-15 HP with a more aggresive cam, much more than that if you went with a solid roller. If you aren't running nitrous, a solid roller would be the way to go with your motor.

Why exactly does a solid roller make more power then a hyd.?
And what RWHP gains would that give me over this cam I have?
How do they idle compared to hyd.?
Thanks for the input.

You should be able to pull 10.8's with ease.
Personally I would leave the cam in you have now and get your other issues figured out. If you want more rump at idle, drop your idle rpm 100rpm through LS1 edit. Dont bother switching cams...

With what you've got, you should (imho) be in the mid 10s. Sort out whats not workign perfectly, get everything tuned and sorted... run the best you can with what you've got... THEN start swapping out working parts

Im too jealous of ppl who's cars just plain work and have 10 sec potential as they sit. I cant feel bad that in your 436 a 242/242 isnt enough yet

This time the Chris's agree.

I hear you guys. I plan to have this thing tweaked to perfection and then down the road consider any upgrades. I'm just trying to get some knowledge now.
If a solid roller will offer better idle but considerably more power, that's for me.
Mid 10's would be unbelievable the way it is right now.
