Default 110 lsa

Are 110 lsa cams hard to tune? I installed a ASA cam past weekend, took it to my tuner and made less hp and torque than my hotcam. The tuner got my peak number about the same as the hotcam but the torque and power is less throughout the mid range power band. I'm cosidering taking it to another tuner but that's another 400 bucks. I may also consider swapping the cam for a MTI C2 cam 581 224/224 on a 114 lsa. The cam and springs will be free, since a guy in town wants to trade me even for my hotcam and springs. Any advise would be great.

I will try to load the dyno graph but dont have a scanner at this time that will allow me to load the pic online.

The LSA does not make a car difficult to tune, the overlap does. The ASA cam does not have an excessive amount of overlap, but it will require a very free flowing exhaust to work best. That means no exhaust manifolds, no cats, no restrictive catbacks. What kind of exhaust are you running?

Do you know the intake centerline of your cam? By advancing the cam 2-4 degrees, you should pick up some low and mid-range torque.

im running pacesetter longtubes, 3 inch y pipe and gmmg exhaust. I dont know the intake centerlap on the cam. Also, when i let off the gas I hear alot of popping through the exhause like unburnt fuel being ignited and the exhaust smells really rich.

Most likey could be some exhaust leaks too.

i may have a header gasket leak on the driver side, but would that cause a large power loss?

Yes it would. I had a bad header leak on an old 400 Trans Am and it killed alot of torque.

Header leaks will also whack out your O2 sensors because if you're sucking in outside air upstream of your sensor, you will not have a true O2 reading and your A/F ratio will get messed up.

Definitely sounds like the pcm is dumping fuel. ASA cam is on a 108 ICL by the way.

It seems like its dumping fuel, smells rich and MPG is worse. I love the way the cam sounds but i'm going to take the cam out and replace it with a 581 224/224 114lsa. By the way i thought the ASA cam sounded awesome in my car until i heard the clips with your 1 chambered flows.

Whos your tuner? There are more bad tuners out there than there are good ones. And I'm running a tighter LSA than you, but I recently changed my 02's and fixed my exhaust leaks that were at the collectors and my car is running ALOT better now, alot of the cam surge is gone and the part throttle throttle response is way up. I don't know if it was the 02's the exhaust leaks, or both, but it made a huge difference. My 02 BLM's on my scanmaster changed alot too, so I know it's not in my head.

hmm some of the sypmtoms that you guys described from exhaust leaks i have.. and i do beleave i have on the passenger side header... sux cuz i put new gaskets when i did my headers last year... i gotta check that out.. it also mite be leaking from the block off plates..

as for vidals cam swap. the tunner he goes to is out here in new braunfels.. i wont say the name. ill let vidal do that if he wants.. i think his loss in power was the tune.. but i would also defenatly go with the tr224 we were talkin bout vidal. also try lethal
