there is no exact number. it is different on every car and theres a million different factors that will play part in the life of your bottom end. theres people on here with over 500rwhp but like i said theres no exact number. if your planning on go big like over 550 on motor then i would say build it. jus my 2 cents but hope that helps

I'd personally be more concerned about OTHER parts sustaining 500 hp. Things like transmission, clutch, rear etc would be a good place to begin your upgrades before you start tearing apart your bottom end. A good rebuilt tranny from t56rebuilds will sustain a good 400-450 rwhp and then you're looking at an LS7 clutch and some 4.10 gears. Good luck on whatever route you decide to go on your project

I was originally going to go heads/cam and a 150 shot. I was looking at 400 rwhp NA and 550 on spray. I had several people here at LS1tech as well as the guys at New Era Performance tell me that my stock bottom end would be a ticking time bomb. It might last five years, five months or five days.

So based on that I have to say 500 rwhp is as much as I would feel comfortable with.

It is all on how conservative you can make the setup.

ALOT of cam only guys on here making 400 RWHP spray a 150 shot all the time, its very common. You need a conservative and proper tune.

You could up the HP on motor, since you said you were doing heads and cam. Try to get around 450 RWHP out of heads and cam, and then only spray a 100 shot. Obviously, a 100 shot is more forgiving than a 150 shot, but as long as its properly tuned, it doesn't matter.

FWIW, I plan on spraying at least a 100 shot on my 488 RWHP N/A car, and more than likely I will be spraying a 150. As long as you take the precautions, 550-650 RWHP is not uncommon on the stock bottom end. Just make sure to keep your torque in line, having a 450 RWHP car, and spraying a 150 shot at 3000 RPM's will end up in piston / rod shattering torque over time. A motor that makes 600 RWHP but 700+ RWTQ is more prone to having issues than a motor that makes 600 RWTQ. Bring the nitrous in later to be safer, set up a window switch to bring it in at 4000+ to help prolong the life of the motor.

I assume this was addressed to me. If it was I appreciate the advise. Half the people I talked to said basically what you did while the other half offered words of caution.

I decided to play it safe and bought a LME L92 416 shortblock built to run N20. That topped with ETP LS7 heads, custom cam and LS7 intake should see 500+ rwhp on motor and 700ish on spray

I made the post based of yours, but its good info for anyone running a setup with heads / cam, and thinking of spray.

Sounds like you are going to have a killer setup, be sure to keep us up to date on how it turns out.
