Default 806 head question (searched)

I have a '98 LS1. Ohh its so terrible and all that. Anyways, moving on...

I have an extra pair of 806 heads that I am planning to have a bit of porting/polishing done on by a local head guy.

I don't really want to upgrade to center bolt heads, 243's, whatever, so lets leave that alone please.

The question I have is this... I have read that the valves in 806 heads are bad and that I should replace them with a later model LS1 intake valve and a truck head exhaust valve. Can I please get some more info on this?? I have searched around as much as the site will let me and haven't come up with much.

Thanks!

The intakes are the same as the newer ones, close enough if theres really a difference. The exhaust valve on the other hand needs to be swapped out to the newer tullip style valves like the later cars and truck heads have.

I agree with Bo, and also once the 98 head is ported it is very compariable to a 99+ LS1 head. Still lacking vs a 243 head which is a LS6/LS2 head.
The LS1 heads are typicially 806 in 97/98 Vette and 98 F body, 853 in the 99-2000 years, and 241 in the 2001/2002 years. In 03/04 Vette and 04 GTO the 241 stayed in place. Once 05 came around the 241's were gone and taken over by the 243's. I believe even the monte carlo SS, Grand Prix GXP etc even use the 243 casting heads.

Once they are ported there will be NO difference between your '98 heads and a set of '04 SPM LS1 heads.

If I were you, I'd have them cut for bigger valves on both sides. 2.02/2.04 on the intake and a 1.57" on the exhaust. If your local guy is any good, they have just as much potential as any 5.3L or LS1 head.
