Default priming engine after 4 years not used

is this plug the way to do that ?
when i put oilpressure in here, it will go through the filter prior to entering the engine ??

please don't tell me to just start the engine without sparkplugs or anything, i WANT to put oil pressure in it prior to startup ....

why are you so against just spinning the motor with the fuel pump fuse pulled? if you really want to go through the trouble, I think that the area you circled will give you access to the galley.

pull out the plug and if you see oil, then you are in the oil galley. the only problem you may encounter is that if you pressurize that area, the oil may just follow the path of least resistance and go towards the pump and the oil pan, doing nothing to lube the rest of the motor

I would also let the starter do all the work........ No sense in doing it any other way....

seriously, the residual oil on the bearings will protect it for the 5 rotations the engine is going to make till new oil flows in

just pull the plugs and fuel pump fuse so it can spin freely with little resistance (compression)

And compression is what puts wear on the bearings anyway.

You are correct, attached is the method specified by GM.

You can put a spoonful of MArvel Mystery Oil down each spark plug hole.

I am also installing a new motor and want to pressure prime.

I have one of these...http://www.motiveproducts.com/02bleeders.html
and am going to modify the end with the fitting for the oil galley.

I also have a valve so I can pressurize the unit to 20 psi and crack it open and watch for oil @ the top of the motor.

Should work and is cheaper too.

thanks, thats usefull info

if i was 100% sure the engine would start right up after a couple of turns,
and it had only been a short while after it ran ..... i might.
but it's a complete transplant into a 70's non gm body, and the chance for it to start right off , isn't 100%

i never do a transplant without a engine prelube......

If you're that apprehensive, you could just put a little assembly lube on the actual bearings and inspect them at the same time. Just a thought. The eight rod bearings wouldn't take that long nor would the main caps.
