Default '03 Z06: 5.3L vs. LS6 heads

Howdy Folks!

I have the opportunity to buy a set of Stage II 5.3L Patriot heads, with super low miles for an outstanding price.

I have a 2003 Z06 - my plans were to replace the OEM LS6 heads with ported LS6 heads - are there any advantages to LS6 based head vs. a 5.3L head? If you're talking roughly the same level of port work, valve size etc.

Do the 5.3L's just have smaller chambers and therefore raise C/R? Any differences in PTV clearance? Exhaust port differences? I'm planning on a TSP MS3 cam on a 114LSA so I was hoping there would be no clearance questions since I'm doing the install at home and would not be comfortable fly-cutting my pistons.

Any advice, input, etc., would be greatly appreciated!

Just an FYI - I was going to go cam only, but if you factor in the price of springs/retainers/locks vs. new "budget" heads plus selling my stockers, the price difference gets down to less than $300. Seems like for the money, it's worth going with new heads, even if the gains are only moderate (?)

Wow, the seller tweaked the price a little more so these are even a better buy then when I first posted - assuming they would be effective in my setup!

I guess a revised question would be: is it worth the extra ~$250-300 for these heads vs. just a cam only install using my stock LS6 heads?

I forgot to mention I would be sticking with my OEM LS6 intake and a ported (OEM) TB, matching it up with my existing Dynatech LT's (and a few induction pieces like a Blackwing), stock Ti exhaust - I'd like to see about ~440rwhp with a moderate cam (GX3, LS3, etc.)

I could definately see you making 430rwhp with the stock catback with the cams you listed. Very much worth investing the extra money for the ported PRC's.
