Default Balancer Installation

I purchased a LS1 long block it came without the balancer. I have a new balancer to install. When reading installation instructions it says to line up the scribed mark made when removing the balancer. There is no mark since the balancer didn't come of this engine. Can anyone tell me how to line it up or does it even make a difference?

Default No need to have a scribe mark

The balancer does not have a keyway or a specific location.

The hard part is getting it seated all the way. There are many threads on this subject.

Go buy yourself a piece of M16 allthread rod and a couple of nuts. You will need it to make a tool to install the new balancer.

And a roller bearing, to make it even slicker.

There's at least one thread here from a guy who tried the "use a longer crank bolt" approach and had big problems.

There's a step on the I.D. of the pulley about 1/4" deep to help get the pulley started. Slide the pulley until the bottom of the step hits the crank snout making sure the pulley is plumb to the centerline of the crank and start turning.
