Question An electric water pump.

I need to replace my water pump. What all is there to do to switch over to an electric and are they worth the 200 extra?

If your car is not a daily driver I would go witht the EWP. LS1howto.com has instructions on how to install one.

its not really going to save you any weight, but getting rid of some parasitic loss might be a ok gain....

if you have the coin, GET IT, car runs @ around 160-165 with the t stat and EWP, tuned, when on the HWY - 180* street

very nice product, EASY to install, EASY to wire as long as you get a relay from Radio SHack...it is really straight forward...

plus it frees up HP

^ That's what the gauge says... the 99+ are 'dumb' gages.
Mine was reading 200*.. The hand held lazer stat said 160*.

Its not all that great for romping on the car for long periods of time tho. The pump turns at the same speed as the factory pump would at 4k, so for say something like extended freeway runs when the motor is over 4k, it would keep up like the stocker would.

Question:

How was the 4000 RPM number verified? I've always heard this figure when referring to the EWP output versus the stock WP output, but I've never heard where this number came from. It obviously didn't keep me from getting an EWP, but I am still curious.

an EWP is good for the track/street and freeing up horsepower....period....not auto X

its one of those mods you do when everything else is checked off the list
IMO

Guessing youve never autocrossed before, but it acually is ok for it also. Road racing is a different story.

I liked mine back in my LT1 days. I dont think I ever saw it get over 160*. It seemed like it pumped 26gpm all the time, even when the engine was off but the key was on. But, it was cheap for an LT1. I think the seal life was good for 2000 hours.
