Looking for oil pan sealant

Looking for oil pan sealant GM says part # 12378190 (replaced by 12346004). GM doesn't say what kind of sealant that is. But it's $25.
I need to put my new oil pan on. I noticed when I took the old one off, it's some kind of soft, creamy, pliable sealantand it doesn't seem to harden.
Anything I can pick up at local auto shop that will work correctly? I have RTC sealant, but that hardens and I want to use the correct stuff.
A search of previous posts points to something called anerobic sealant. Will that work, what is it?
