Default Cam with stock manifolds and gutted cats

It seems that more power should be had from a cam swap on stock manifolds, especially with gutted cats. I am aware of the Cheatr and gt2-3 cams but with gutted cats I think I should be able to take advantage of a cam with slightly more overlap. I have also been thinking about an aftermarket y-pipe that will bolt up to stock manifolds (I think bassani makes one) That would also reduce back pressure allowing more overlap for the cam, correct?

What do you guys think? I have had longtubes and was very displeased with vibrations, rasp, clearance etc. So I switched to my current setup and couldnt be happier.

if you are going to leave the stock manifolds on, leave the cats on it too or get an aftermarket catted Y-pipe. Cats don't cost much horsepower and you will never get hassled by anyone for it. I doubt removing the cats will allow much if any more cam than with cats.

If your looking for big power, stop right now. Patrick G was able to come up with 400rwhp with stock manifolds and cats, I doubt you will do much better N/A without a lot of $$$$ invested. IMO if you are dead set against long tubes (and I have never had the problems you mentioned...) look into something like a turbo kit (maybe STS) and you will be happier.

You allready mentionned the 2 cams that work well with stock manifolds.
I have another one for you, custom:
210/224 .595/.600 115+1

you can run the likes of TR224 114 with manifolds but if the VEs are not tailored for the jopb, the gains are less.

How similar is the gt2-3 cam and CheatR cam in power? The gt2-3 cam can be had for half as much as the CheatR because there is no need for pushrods or expensive springs. But does the CheatR make more power, it is considerably "bigger"

Tell me more about that custom cam PREDATOR-Z and how it would compare to the CheatR (214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA) and the gt2-3 (207/220 573/.580 118.5 CL)

I want to see if 360-370 rwhp can be made cam only on stock manifolds.

Well the Cheatr is a 4000 rpm + cam so down low trq and power will be diminished due to its wide LSA.
The GT2-3 is like a LS6 cam on steroids but also favors higher rpm to kick in.

I designed mine to bring the power and trq much earlier in the band, it peaks earlier than both cams and doesn't require high shift points, 6300 max.
With my original XE version 210/224 .555/.568 115+1, I made 362rwhp on a A4 C5 cam only with stock manifolds, x-pipe, catback, ported TB, open filter and tuning.
This one has the same valve events but with slightly more aggressive lobes for even more power under the curve.

Even after all this, I may end up throwing headers on there. I dont necessarily want to because I love the sound right now. If I do though, they will be stainless this time, possibly with cats.

Problem is even if I do hit 360 rwhp cam only on stock manifolds, I dont think I will be satisfied. And to hit 400 with stock manifolds you need expensive *** heads. To hit 400 with headers you need a sub 230 duration cam package for a little over $600 and a tune.

Thanks for the help.
