Head/Cam packages
I have a 99 ws6 a4 and pull consistent 13.5's. I only have a magnaflow exhaust and slp lid. I want a good setup that will get me in the mid or low 12's with a vig 3600 torque converter. can anyone point me in the right direction on where I could look for the setup? the car will be a daily driver. thanks for the input,
ps..i only have 1500 to spend!

PM Bo White about some heads & look for a used cam. Also since your a 99' your gonna want a intake along with everything else like lifters, springs, oil pump & so fourth. And don't forget to budget in a dyno tune unless you have a laptop & tuning program.
if you only have 1500 to spend go with a 224 and a set of stickies. you can also pull some weight out and things like that but you wont get h/c/stall for 1500. if it was me i would go with an intake, headers and all the bolt ons/bolt offs, and then go stall, cam, heads. it will take a little bit longer to save up for but you will get much better results.... or you could throw 150 shot of nitrous on it and call it a day!!!
I think the stall alone can get you to 12.5 with the right setup.
I would start with a TP4000 from Yank ($750) or the VIG if you must. Get some ebay or pacesetter headers($400) with offroad y-pipe and an LS6 intake ($350). Those are the easiest mods and show solid gains. Also get a cutout ($30). Tires are obviously a MUST. If you don't already have some slicks, get some.
You will have a solid foundation at this point where heads/cam when you can afford it will really pay off.
You'll really bottleneck the cam if you do it first. If you have anything left look for a used 224 cam or equivalent. Just remember you need gaskets, valvesprings, etc. Don't even be thinking about heads at this point.

I raced 3 season on my stock rear (well not so stock,gears/TA girdle) but if you foot brake the rear and preload it, it can last awhile.
Go for headders first (Pacesetters + Y) and then stall, (if you stay without spray then YPT 4400) if spray (SS4000)
Those 2 mods will get you into the 12s with ET tires.

I made 300+ passes in the 1/4 in the 10's or close to on the stock 10 bolt and over 500 total in the car. The A4 is ALOT easier on it. My posi went out before I broke the pinion gear. And I had a little 4.10 in there.
If fuel economy is important, and good street manners is more important than the track time, I would not go with a TP4000 or TP4400. The TP4400 is pretty loose even with 4.10's in my light car, I'm moving down to a TP4000 and mine is not a daily driver.
