Cannibal is right on. Cutting the lever just up from the hole makes a fantastic tool for F-body cars. Just use one of the rocker arm bolts with a flat washer through the hole that would normally set over a rocker stud (Gen 2 style) and rest the heel of the tool on the intake side of the valve cover rail which creates a fulcrum that plunges the spring and retainer very easily. With both valve covers and rocker arms off, it took me an hour and fifteen minutes to change sixteen valve springs.

I didn't even need to remove the pushrods. Of course it took me the rest of the day and night to put the remainder of the engine back together.

The actual changing of the springs was a piece of cake with the lever type tool.
Good luck,
Richard
