Default Ideal Cam for my Z28?

I have a 98 Z, I have a SLP lid, headers and full exhaust ready to go on. What's my ideal cam size for this set up? I wanna go as big as possible and still be practical. Just want a mean street car. Open to any suggestions.

go witht he ms4... thing makes a lot of power and sounds mean as hell. is your car an a4 or m6? if its an a4 i would go with a stall first, most like 4000. also i would go with a better intake. go with a ls6. they can be had for like around 300 brand new. after the stall and intake them go with a cam.

Thats almost my exact setup, I would highly reccomend all of that for a daily driver. I would only go with a bigger cam if it was a stick of raced constantly.

I'm going to tell you what my first mod was and I loved it. A set of thick gears 3:73s for the rear end so it will work with your existing carrier. A Vigalante 3200-3400 rpm stall and a TPs Torquer V2 @112. This is an after LTH and y-pipe installed. That cam has a real flat torque curve and comes on like a ***** when that Vigalante stalls it rite into its power curve. You're gonna need drag radials unless you've mastered the art of driving sideways. That combo ran consistant 12.5Xs and later on if you bolt on a set of TSP Stage 1 LS6s its like bolting on 50hp and will put you running 12.0Xs. You don't want to spin that 98 to far with the stock rod bearings and this cam will shift great at 6200 rpm which is as far as I would let it spin.

Stall first: either VIG 3200>3600 or Yank SS3600>SS4000
Gears: 3.73
Cam TR 230/224 on a 111LSA
Smaller TSP 228R on a 112+2 LSA
Smaller TR224/224 112+4

Seing it is a high mile 98, I wouldn't spin it above 6300, but if I were you, I would save $$$ and get ready fora rebuilt, doing cam etc... while it is apart.
You'll ask me why? Because the bearings on those years will let go soon with that many miles.

Just don't forget to get a LS6 intake or a Fast 90/NW 90 if you can swing the price.

Yea Im replacing bearings while Im in there. How come so many people are saying go with 3.73's? Whats the factory gear? Is that gonna kill my mileage?

Im gonna go with the 90/90 set up, I got around 6 or 7g's to spend so Im trying to do this right. (But Im using 2 for wheels/tires.)

Anyone have an idea of what this setup would run? give or take a couple tenths? Guessing low 13's? High 12? Car ran 14.02 bone stock on street tires in 100 degrees...

If you do everything right, it should be a low 12 second car with a good dyno tune. Your 60' will be a big factor for your ET so nittos on the back tires wouldn't hurt.

Low 12's I can do, thatd be great. Im gonna run 18x10.5's with 295/35's in the rear on the street and then pick up some drag radials for the track.

With seven large I would rebuilt the motor and go from there. Since it is still running it will be a simple rebuilt.
