good-the Rollmaster crank sprocket when in very easily w/out having to heat it up. i mean, eaily, it smacks the base.

got lifters out, and they seem to have some kind of sandy stuff on them. i wonder if it is just dust from being exposed for a week.

saturday-oil pump (wish me luck), cam, degree it, lifters, heads, check length of pushrods, and try to finish up then, if not, sunday.

not in a hurry anymore, just want to do things right.
Sounds like your doing good, I finally got my pulley and cam out and back in. So now I got to do the oil pump and timing chain myself.

sounds great!

i have not done the cam, have been focusing on the pump and crank sprocket.
the bolt for the pick up tube is a pain.
i need to double check the o-ring is not pinched.
after that, the cam should go in, degree it, and the rest, i.e., heads and all.

keep me posted. it is nice to be doing this at the same time!

you have the t.2, that should be a monster with the heads. wow!

i got a new one for gmpartshouse.

when i bought the oil pump, they told me it came with one. NOT.
so, glad i had alreagy bought one.

i installed mine last night, but was wondering if i should have put the o-ring on the tube instead of the pump. what do you think?

i think tonight i will disconnect the pump to double check the o-ring is fine.

I would definitely put it on the tube. I had heard "oh just let it sit on there, don't press it down". I gently nudged it down to the "lip" on the pickup tube, and my pressure was perfect on initial start up. Hope you didn't button it all back up yet

hey, lastcall,
thanks for the quick response.
i will do that tonight. actually, i stopped when i was gauging the crank to the pump.

i will just take all four bolts out, and play with the connection again. better safe than sorry, and now that it is still open.

do you know the torque specs on the pump bolts, cover, and the sequence and torque for oil pan?

thanks!!

As per LS1howto, the four oil pump bolts are 18 ft-lbs, the cover (I assume you mean timing cover), is 18 ft-lbs too, but just hand tighten them (with no wrench) just to get started. I used this http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23 and had a great time installing it. Hopefully it'll answer all your questions better than I can. BTW work is slow so responses are fast

How did you manage to do that? I'm not positive if you can remove the oil pan gasket without dropping the pan. If I remember correctly, there were a couple of rivets attaching it to the pan (one on each side, towards the rear). Good luck swapping in a new one.

well, after removing the oil pump to make sure the o-ring was fine, and putting it back on, the lower right bolt busted when i was torqueing them. yep, and actually, it just broke as if it was something soft.
used one of the old ones, and it is fine.

installed Rollmaster, timing cover, slp u/d pulley (the tool for this is pretty cool!), water pump, and the new stuff.
heads are in, intake, new injectors (boy! these are a PITA to change!), and began connecting stuff.

oh! torquing the first head was fine and fun. the second, driver's side, of course, a little more work. and, i got carried away with bolt #9, forgot 3rd pass was only 50*, went to almost 90*. i gues i get to buy a new bolt and install it either tomorrow or tuesday.

what's left-rocker arms, check length for push rods (hopefully my 7.4 will work), valve covers, headers, oil change, coolant...hook up the battery...and..vavoom for the first time since i started.

almost there. i did have a couple of set backs, mainly with the oil pump, to include a busted aftermarket bolt. other than that, it's been mostly fun. D

hey, shooter,

well, tonight i had difficulty setting lifter preload. agh!
well, i am not too sure, but maybe i did get it right.

i had began writing a file knowing my mods, and gathering info from here and there, and asking questions. i did ask for help, and i got a lot of it.

so, i think i have something to get started and run hopefully fine.

i need to hook my LC-1, so that i can do my logs with HPTuners with RTT.
so, i guess it will be me after the big initial help.

well, i realized it took almost a full turn to reach 22 ft-lb of torque with the 7.40 pushrods.
so, i decided to use my pr length checker, and set it to 7.35, and it took 1/4 of a turn, then 1/2 of a 1/4 of turn to reach the 22lbs. which is 3/8 of a turn. preload for this lifters is 3/8-1/2 of a turn. now, i have to buy new rods.

the 7.40s were taking 1/2 of a turn more than set at 7.35. too much preload.

now i have a brand new set of 7.4 PRs for sale. lol

hey, lastcall,

thanks, man!!

and thanks for your help as well.

i was done, got inside the car, flashed the new file, and DID NOT want to start the car! lol
then, i just did it! it made all kinds of noises, and scared the crap out of me.
so, i got out, went to front, actually, i filmed it, but for some reason i can't find it. well, all that noise went away. it was valvetrain, needed for the oil to get there!! he,he

it sure was worth it!
it drives nicely, lopes and shakes at a stop, and it is louder, love it!!

hey, brad!!

thanks!
i am very happy with it.
i did probably expect a little more at the bottom. then again, i have been taking it slowly due to break in.

you know how long i waited for this, and the set backs here and there. well, it sure is fun driving that beast around, especially at the lights!!

thanks man!
i might hit you up with questions about tuning.

i think my wideband has some ground issues. we'll see.
