To Xaon: Do you recommend me doing the lifters? Ive got 50k miles on the car but I didnt want to pull the heads until I have the money for ported ones! I dont want to pull them either just for the lifters! How bad does it increase surging with this cam, because the car does it a little when creeping in 1st! What other kind of problems do you run into with this cam! Let me know when you get the sound clips, thanks.

As mentioned, this is a VERY popular cam among many shops out there, ours included. We labeled it our 224R cam, and it's the best overall street/strip cam out there IMO. This is the first cam that I swapped to in my A4 SS, and it was FANTASTIC! I had it idling at 825 RPM in gear with no problems. It had a nice thump to it but nothing that was too radical at all. I ran it with blue-stripe Comp 918 springs with Comp 772 titanium retainers with no problems. I also used the stock lifters. I swapped to this cam and from a Vig 3200 converter to a Yank PT4400 torque converter, and that took me from 332 RWHP with a locked converter to 379.9 RWHP locked up. Unlocked, I went from 315 RWHP to 361 RWHP. Keep in mind that these are dyno numbers through an auto, NOT a more efficient six-speed! My best ET with stock heads and the 224R camshaft (and all of the bolt-ons) was an 11.63 @ 114 MPH with a 1.588 60'. This was with a 3,515# raceweight and 1,100' density altitude.
I have since swapped to our 228R cam. The 224R was too tame for my liking. FYI, I picked up 9 RWHP with the 228R over the 224R. It's a more radical cam: 228/228, .588"/.588", 111 LSA, but it's still not too radical for street driving IMO. I drive my car a lot on the street! We have installed the Manley springs and titanium retainers in quite a few local cars with both the 224R and 228R cams with no problems so far. They have worked very well for us so far.
FYI, we can sell you a complete cam package for $742.98. This will include your choice of camshaft (including a custom-grind if you so desire), Manley valve springs good to .600" lift, Manley titanium retainers, and Manley hardened pushrods. We have the 220/220 114 LSA, 224/224 112 LSA, 228/224 111 LSA, and 228/228 111 LSA cams in stock and ready to ship.
