well, im going with a 12bolt anyways, so 4.10's are on tap. i dont think that the 10 bolt will hold up to the 230/224.

It never hurts to upgrade the rear, but if I were you and not planning on doing more than a cam I wouldn't spend the money on that until I had too. Unless you want different gears, but still then, just my .02. Its an expensive mod for a 400hp max car.

Nevermind, you are doing heads too. Good choice, becasue It would have been good bye rear end. But you knew that - I need to read more

+1 on the gears, and if you are an auto get a GOOD high stall converter 4000+ if you really want to take advantage of the cam!

from the dyno sheets and what not ive seen, if i go with the TSP 5.3's and the TR230/224 with the FAST 90/90 and all the supporting mods, and i dont see 450+RWHP, ill be pissed.

Dont get your hopes crazy high, that can only lead to dissapointment. I have TR230/236 and milled (.015) LS6 heads from TSP and it clears without flycutting, even with the cometic .040. Static compression calcs to about 11.5-11.6 and dynamic around 8.4-5. So far no numbers yet, but dyno will be soon (still breaking in the clutch and about to get a tune). I'm hoping for 430 or so.

Sounds like you have a good plan though!

Interesting cam choice.... I have a stock LS6 longblock making about 385rwhp and wonder what increases I could get with cam only.

you should be over that.....easily. i seen a few cam only dyno sheets of the 230/224 making 400 or so, then with heads around 440, but thats with the LS6 intake, if i go with the FAST90/90 and maby some bigger headers.....i would hope for around 450.

I'm just saying dont do what i like to call the "jc whitney" buildup...for instance, hey this cold air is 15 hp, headers 35, ls6 20, so that's 70 hp over what i have now so i'm looking at 400 on an otherwise stock LS1. I think it'll be higher too but rather not be disappointed. The car that had the cam before I picked it up made 420hp/397ftlbs...We'll see what it makes when i get it dyno'd in a week or so. I dont expect to be in the 450-460 range however...

Definitely, and i'm not trying to say you cant make that much, just saying wait and see what it makes. So far i'm happy with my setup, it feels MUCH faster and it's still without a tune and with low miles. Results soon! Do yours so we can compare

unfortunately, its going to be atleast a year before i even have enough money to think about cammin my car. because, with the power levels im shooting for, there are a lot of supporting mods that have to be done. rear, trans, clutch, susp, chassis, etc.....so its a pretty expensive cam swap no matter how you size it.

When I did mine, I was hoping for about 375rwhp. First dyno pulls before tuning were at 372rwhp. I was really suprised when the final numbers came in after we got it all tuned in!

I really wanted to go with that cam in the worst way but I new that I was going to toss a S/C on so I knew that cam wouldn't work. Or work very good I should say. I was going to get a custom grind but the price was right when I stumbled upon a new comp cam 224/228 .581/.588 114LSA. I figure it should make some decent numbers both NA and boosted while still having some decent drivability. Anyways, I wish I could have gone with the TR230. Of all cams, for me, that was my favorite. Like Predator has stated many times, its all under the curve and not that peak number. In which I think that cam still does a might fine job with. So good luck in your project, will keep an eye out for your results. Maybe in the future I will decide to go NA with some H/C and remember those kick as numbers you are going to produce!

I was very pleased with my TR230/224 when I was cam only with full bolt ons. Car dynoed 390rwhp and ran a best of 11.90 on motor and 10.82 on a 150shot with a 9" moser. Not even tuned for the spray. I could only imagine what it would have done with a good set of heads. I seen another guy put down 450rwhp with this cam with 5.3 heads.

Very nice choice of cam with good driveability. I miss it.

I ran the tr230 cam only for a while. The car went 11.66 @ 116. Later, I added a set of PRC LS6 heads and the car went 11.55 @ 120. I picked up 4 mph but couldn't reflect that on the e.t. due to traction issues. The car was run on ET Streets cam only, but on nitto dr's with the h/c package. Both runs were with a 1.60 60'.

im starting to lean toward the FMS F12-112 cam. 230/230 .595/.595 112. i think this cam would be more sutited to the CNC 5.3's rather than the TR230/224. i think this might get me closer to my 450 RWHP mark.
