Default MS4 in a 383?

I know people have made good numbers with this cam in a stock CID engine, but would it perform well in a 383, or would I be better off sticking with my Torquer V2 for my new engine?

Ive never ridden in a car with an MS4 cam, but from what Ive heard, its a mid-upper range cam, and the 383 itself would cover the low end torque.

Any input would be appreciated

Well, it is important to remeber that a 'larger' cam will actual work better in a larger cubed set up, such as a 383. I would try it. Sounds VERY stout! It would be safe to say that the T2 would actually leave some left to be desired in the 383. By nature the 383 will pick up torque across the board, then with the MS4, power as well.

I was considering throwing a Lunati 383 stroker assembly into my motor, just for ***** and giggles, and was going to keep my MS3...but then I thought about it and considered the MS4 since it seems to have a better profile for the street than the MS3.

Try it and see. Just check your PTV! That cam has gobs of lift on the intake side!

I had a F13 the first time I rebuilt the motor, which I think is quite similar to the Torquer, and it did feel adequate. When that cam failed I went to the one in my sig, which again, is similar to the MS4 and felt much better in the middle and upper rpms. I would say drop the Torquer and get the MS4.

239/242, .649"/.609"

I need to check with my engine builder, to see what kind of heads he wanted to run. I think we were looking at edelbrock 225 heads, but Im not sure. If the lift on the intake side of the MS4 is to much, then what would be people's next choice?

Umm... I'd choose the best heads you could afford, then sell the MS2, then buy a custom matched cam for your setup. You'd make the most power that way, and have whatever powerband you want.

the 383 is defiently gonna want more cam than a 346 id so go bigger but go custom matched to your setup . i think youd be alot happier in the end. another tip you will get better driveability with the 383 and bigger cam so it leaves room to go a tad bigger than what u might have thought was driveable

i wanted good driveabilty on mine and got excellent driveability and now relize i coulda gone bigger and probbly will swap out my cam in the near future

I vote for a custom cam. It will not work out the best trying to use an off the shelf cam for a 346.

I agree with this 100%, it always better to build a cam with the specs that YOU will need with YOUR set up...I started with off the shelf cams before, they were nice...but always left something to be desired...I now spec'd my own cam, cannot WAIT until it goes in!

We can spec one out for you if you would like...just shoot me a PM...I actually am thinking about a 383 build myself...so we can exchange ideas..

I am here to help

I'm running a F13 in my 383 and it's a torque monster! And that's a 230/232-.595/.585-114+4. In a car that weighs about 1000lbs lighter, I would go a little bit bigger though.
