white powder on exhaust tips

white powder on exhaust tips I just noticed after a 11 hr roadtrip, no rain, that the exhaust tips on my 99 T/A have white stuff on them. It seems to "baked" on right at the tip of the openings. I also had my low oil light come on this morning and sure enough it was 2 quarts low. I've owned the car for a few months and it has always had a little rough idle but runs fine. Should i be worried?

OK Maybe i should clarify. I'm wondering if if the residue on the exhaust is due to an internal failure of a seal, piston ring, gasket etc. The point of this thread is to see if anyone has experienced this before and what, if any, cause they found. I work on jet engines and looking at things like residue of a particular color/consistency is a clue to whats going on internally, no different than inspecting a spark plug.
I can wipe the blood off a gun shot, does that mean i have no problem?

If you can wipe the blood off the GUN, you have no problem.
with only 70K miles. doesnt blow smoke or anything. just dissapears somewhere.

on a side note... 2 quarts is awefull low.... I'm surprised the low oil light didn't come on a quart sooner...
i'd say keep an eye on the oil level for the next 1000 miles, drive it around like an old retired fart, and if it seems to do ok for the next 1000 miles, go get the oil changed, and you should be fine...

Did you drive it through any debris on the road or drive where they might have just painted lines on a road, I drove my one old car on a road that was just painted and I found like a thin white powdery kind of dust on my tips and just inside after I inspected the car to make sure paint didnt get everywhere. Other than that, Im not too sure if you should be running 10w30. Thats a high weight, our cars are supposed to run 5w30 and alot of people run 0w30. Check into that, you might be causing some kind of carbon build up that turns white. Let us know.
