Default 02' ls1 surging VID INSIDE

OK, this is an ongoing saga for me. When the car was purchased (approx. 16k miles) it was quiet. Within a week, it began to get a tick on startup. This went away after about 20-30 seconds. Dealer says it's piston slap. A month or two goes by and it gradually gets worse. Can't explain why but it seemed to get noticibly worse right after oil changes.

By about 25k miles it wouldn't go away. It also wouldn't start ticking right at start but sometimes when it was half way warmed up (going by the dumby guage of course). I could run the car all day and it would be just as bad as when I started, sometimes worse. Something else that started and got worse with the noise was it started surging. Not horribly bad, buy noticibly. It is most noticible under light pedal pressure with a load on the engine (i.e. going uphill with the AC on).

At about 31k miles, I had a head gasket leak and when it was replaced they found that I had some bad lifters. Wish I knew which ones. But when I got the car back it sounded like it did when I bought it. It was strong, smooth, and quiet. There was a noticible difference in power. Thought I was going to break loose out on 820.

But within 1k miles, the tick began to come back same as before and has progressed to the point it was at then. I have tried different oils, seafoam, and have auto-rx'ed the car (which did increase my mpg, buy nothing more) but have seen no change.

I didn't think that the lifters should cause this sort of issue, but it does seem that the louder that this noise gets the worse the surging gets. It is a little more subdued when the engine heats up but is definately still there.

Also, when revving to about 5k or better, I start to hear a light rattle. This also went away after the dealership visit. I wiil try to post a vid soon. Hope this isn't overkill, but I want to get the problem figured out before I begin any major modding and/or before my ext. warranty runs out. Thanks in advance.

By the way, oil pressure is good and I don't burn a bit of oil.

It would probably be better described as a hesitation rather than surging.

mine was ticking when my oil pump was going out and then it went clack clack clack like it sounded like the fan was hitting the shroud every time it went around and come to find out it was the oil pump that had caused the bearing to spin and also i had several bad lifters

As far as the rattle around 5k under load, I would think that could be detonation. Are you running on regular (lower octane) gas?

running 93 octane. it does feel like it starts to fall off a bit as well on the top end. I have dyno pull that you should be able to here it on as well as the low end ticking when they pull it up. I'll try to get it posted tomorrow.

O.K....Could somebody name a reputable shop in the DFW area that will do extended warranty work and not charge an arm and leg to do a tear down.

WOW!! 6 straight post with no comment or thoughts. Ithought that the video would get at least a little insight when the car pulls up and towards to top of the pull.
