That block is Mcfucked. The water sleeve jacket is cracked. Plus all the reseleeved blocks I have seen, there are no spaces/gaps between the sleeves.

I agree that someone most likely took a Kaltech block and worked there own magic. The hammer marks on the main cap gives it a touch of class

Bill,

Sorry I have not got back to you yet. In the last 6 days I have been to Gingerman, Mid-Ohio, GM Performance build center and Pratt & Miller. Wow.

Do not use that block. That is a sleeved LS1 7.0L used for the C5-R race program initial testing before the C5-R block was ready. Without digging too deep into the archives, I can tell you that the block was logged into our system in November 1998! It may not have even been intended for anything more than a dyno test. Who knows what has happened to it since then either. I see somebody doesn't know how to remove main caps. The screens are installed by us using that epoxy and have been since then. It is used to catch valvetrain material from going down into the block in the event of a failure. I would recommend you contact the person who sold it to you and demand a refund. You aren't even supposed to have that. I bet it was scrapped and somebody picked it up as a souvenier. After changing hands a couple times all the sudden it is the best block ever from Katech. Every block that leaves Katech is stamped with K#### or GMK####. If you guys see blocks on ebay and wonder what they are ask for that serial number and email it to me. I'll tell you what it is before you buy it.

Thanks Jason, I have my answer now. Not exactly what I hoped to hear, or had hoped to receive.

I did email the seller, richardsauto@sbcglobal(.net) and gave him a link to this thread. I'll contact him via ebay as well.

Seems the block has some history to it...

Sure - Cannon PowerShot SD500 7.1 Megapixel. There are now better models out there. The macrofocus feature is good for close-up shots. Google Picasa2 helps clean up the picture by improving contrast/brightness/crop and export.

As far as the motor, I tried to contact the seller (via ebay & email) but no response for the last couple of days. I'll post a paypal dispute to get his attention. Since it's a scrap motor I probably shouldn't pay for shipping.

Jason, is the engine the property of Katech?

You know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Ah, seller responded, thank goodness for paypal insurance:

"as is where is - I got the block in a trade for a truck that was probably worth 2,000 or better- If it is scrap then it is your scrap at this point - I don't see how it is possible when a local shop checked it and did not find anything wrong with it"

Good luck, and press on, from his response it's like he already knew you were going to be calling him about it. I most certainly looks like he knew it was a bad block.

Let me tell you this, Paypal is a ******* joke. I will never do business with paypal again or give them any money. I ordered a set of brand new headlights for my mustang. They came in and it looked like a child assembled them. VERY Poor quality and not what was shown in the pics. Well I emailed paypal and sent them the pics. They basically responded that I needed to work it out with the seller. Seller said that he has never had bad feedback about the headlights and when I sent him the pics he said that they look great. Weather stripping was falling off, the glue that held them together was all over the place. I'll never use paypal again.

$1,400

I now have three blocks in my garage.
1) early LS6 with cracked cylinder
2) late LS6 that needs hone to 3.910 (not good for high HP)
3) '97 LS1 Katech (property?) prototype scrap motor

Last time I bought a brand new LS6 bare block it was $500. These days I have a hard time paying $1,000+ for a bare stock block. I'm in the SF Bay area, so if anyone knows of a good used block or a good deal in the area, please pm me. I've spent way too much lately to ship motors around.

Holy crap... that thing is jacked. Let us know if you get your money back. My Katech block was perfect, no gaps anywhere at all. Here's a couple pics of what it looked like before I sold it.

Yup, nothing but a thin line between bores, and you have lots of aluminum around the sleeves. Looks like those are different sleeves also since they're round and not interlocking. I notice you don't have screens or milling around the lifter bores.

I saw the motor on ebay with a few minutes left, and on the very last minute bid on it with no other bids. I didn't have much time to verify it and couldn't find any other Katech block pics online, in hindsight I should've let the deal pass by.

I saw that on ebay too. I didn't even think about buying it, but noticed someone did. Road trip time. Try and cancel your payment or dispute it with paypal. Use Ferocity02's pictures as a guide to send them of what it should look like. If necessary try to get Jason involved to prove it's fubard.
