Default stock ls6 heads/intake?

Hey guys, are the stock ls6 heads and intake worth it on an ls1 with long tubes, and a 226/228 cam on 114 with .580 lift ? Would I be better off with ported 5.3s and stock ls1 intake? In an A4 camaro looking to add 2800-3200 stall. Rebuilt bottom end. Any idea on my potential gains, or if these mods are even worth it? I will go cam only if they aren't but ive gotten some good deals on ls6 top end so wanted to see if its worth the $$

I say so if your in a money pinch. Otherwise, just save up your dough and get some ported ls6's, 5.3 or afr's. With just bare LS6 heads you won't notice a hell of a difference. Some say around 20rwhp.

hrm, asking becuz i got a great deal on ls6 heads/intake combo. both for a little more than what a new ls6 intake costs. im considering cam only, id like to break 400HP. cam is either a tr224 or vengeance x3. if its not worth the money ill keep stock ls1's. anyone else have any exp with this?

i say go for it, you could always get the ls6 heads and have them ported later on. they are still better than the stock heads.

these cars are fun but cost lots of $$$$. i bought the texas speed ported stage 1 (budget) heads for $900. they flow 307 cfm at 600lift. intake and about 215 exhaust. stock ls1 are around 243cfm, stock ls6 about 270 cfm. the advantage of stock ls6 heads is they have sodium filled light weight valves. my heads came with steel valves and ls6 springs. i would upgrade springs next time. as for horse power gains i dropped in a small cam the stock ls6 2002 so i only gained around 20 rwhp heads and maybe 20 cam. just my 2 cents.

Look at this thread. https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/552427-stock-ls6-heads-results-inside.html

He gained 35rwhp by adding stock LS6 heads and he was running a 224 cam.

yep but he had ls6 intake before heads, im wondering total gain for both, awesome thread though. not sure if its worth 600 bones for ls6 heads and intake unless its 30hp or more unleashed with that cam vs stock ls1 intake and heads.

The LS1 intake is definately a restriction. A stock car will gain about 10rwhp from the LS6 intake alone and the heads will add another 20-25 with the cam. If you can get the heads and intake for $600 that is a steal. I sold my stock LS6 intake for $350 and the heads are worth about $600 by themselves.

cool well guys, whats your feeling on valve seals? the heads have 30k on them. replace when new s prings go on? look slike i will be getting ls6 head/intake combo to compliment my cam. i wish i knew more about which cam to get. cant decide on the Thunder Racing 224, the texas speed 224, or the vengeance racing x3. i cant get ahold of anyone at vengeance and they were closed in the middle of the day and i lft msg and cant get a returned call.

The vengeance racing VRX3 cam is a solid performer. Do a search there is a Dyno graph of a car cam only with just headers and it did 403/380. Not bad numbers at all.

btw what cams are on xer lobes? i hear alot about them, and also that they eat valvesprings every 20k. im not big on changing valvesprings, is the TR 224.224 with .563 lift known for this? the vengeance is freakin 226 228 with around .580 liftm which looks even harder on springs
