Default Are all 98 and up aluminum blocks the same?

question in title. I heard that some earlier ls1's had small problems. Don't know if this is correct. Anyone have any problems with earlier ls1 blocks or are they all the same.

I assume you're talking about the LS1 block. The 97-98 blocks are different than the 99-up LS1 blocks. The main difference is the oil galleys with 99-up having the improved revision and the 98's can't be bored as much as the 99-up blocks. With that said, the 97-98 blocks are solid blocks and usually don't have piston slap like the later years.

Can I assume the 99-up blocks are stronger then?
In general how much horsepower can the blocks take before cracking?

97-98 hp max???
99-up hp max???

I don't think one is stonger than another. the newer ones have better oiling. Which is better on a high HP motor
