Default CompCams Cam: how to tell the difference from a stock Cam?

I just got me a cheap CompCams Cam from ebay, how can I check if it's really the cam that the numbers on the box say? this guy could have send me a stock LS1 Cam, maybe just put it into the CompCams box?

See that 0965 printed on the top? That is a stock 98-00 LS1 cam, GM part # 12560965. GM prints the last 4 digits of the part # on stock cams.

Also, Comp cams will usually look like this unless the selling vendor etches their own numbers on the end. Comp usually etches the lobe #s, the LSA, and any advance on the end.

He better not have done that on purpose. I made a lamp out of my stock cam today. I've never welded before. It was fun.

Had the same thing happen to me. Guy said it was a thunder 224 and had the box to prove it. I got it in and was a stock cam. Luckily I paid paypal and filed a claim, got all my money back. Hope same happens for you. Josh

Turned out the guy bought it to put in his Z but didn't get a chance cause he sold it and bought a Z06. Turns out someone got him when he bought it. Definately not cool of people to do that!!! But he was a good guy and took care of it.
