Default stock head ?s

my header bolts dont want to thread in anymore, and i have a set of stock heads my buddy is giving me (853s i believe...came off a 00 Z28).

I would buy new heads, but i dont have the $$ for it now, so if i dont put his heads on, the car will just sit there for months until i can float the extra $$. I have a 224/224 .581/.581 112lsa cam now, with good springs/P-rods/retainers and stuff that i will swap over (can i swap it all over?), but i was talking to NA$TY-TA about doing the swap and he suggested milling the heads some... so here are my questions...

-is that a good idea?
-should i mill them or just get a thinner head gasket? or do both?
-What about some home porting with a dremel (it will be about a week or two before i put the heads in, so i figure i could play around with the dremel and clean them up some...)?
-lifters...should i pick up some ls7 lifters (about 100 bucks) or are stockers good enough...

i dont plan on doing much else with the internals of the motor, and im only doing this because i have to... unless something comes up and i cant swap something over (like springs or something), then i would wait a few weeks and grab a bigger cam.

and before someone says just wait and get new heads...thats not an option...i have these here, and theyre going on.

I would target 11.1 static compression ratio by milling heads. Some say the .060 GM MLS head gaskets seal the best so I would use those. If you do use the thinner .040 Cometic gasket (better quech) spray copper sealer before using.

Your 224 cam probably has +4 degrees advance ground into it, but I would retard it -4 degrees for a safe DCR.

Port match your plastic intake to heads.

Why do you need lifters? Inspect and reuse.

The GM MLS gasket is .06 compressed or uncompressed?
How much would you recommed milling?

I would get ARP head studs. when you want to change to better heads, they are already there and you can't reuse the stock GM bolts anyway.

Don't try to port match or port your heads if you don't know what you are doing.

As for lifters. LS7 lifters are about $100 from SCPC. If you have the cash do it. It's just added insurance.

Stock GM gasket is .053 compressed I believe. Cometics will give better quench, but are more likely to leak.

If you mill the heads, you will need shorter pushrods & may need to flycut the pistons with that lift. I'm not sure about the lift.

Milling a set of 853's 0.024 would get 11:1 compression with a stock gasket, I believe. I would check with someone like Gunnar at Patriot to be sure.

I do not know how much to mill? But here is Combustion Chamber specs per Will Hanzels manual:

LS1 head: 66.67 cc
LS6 head: 64.45 cc
