Thumbs down 346 is now dead

Well I finally pulled my head off the car to see what was making all the noise and here is what I found

The head is pretty beat up and the piston is all hacked up looks to me like possibly rod bolt failure as the valvetrain looks ok up to no broken springs or rocker arms so what else would that leave? oh yeah I also had parts of the piston ring in the damn intake kind of a sad day, but the upside I get a new engine!!

Thats the normal broken piston ringland on #7 that happens to alot of people. A chunk of the ringland breaks off and bounces around destroying everything. Same thing happened to me...

That sucks man, I know how you feel, except mine was a spun bearing. Good luck getting it going.

Why is everyone blowing motors like crazy lately? Too much nitrous, crappy H/C swaps?? This is getting ridiculous.

I thought it was ridiculous yesterday when I pushed my car down the road after it spun a bearing.

Ya mines blown up too. And it only had h/c. Beginning to wonder why I went away from the sbc's. Seems like these 346's are a bunch of pussies! you could throw alot at a 350 4-bolt main and it would laugh right back. Seems as if you fart at a ls1 it will choke and die...

sorry just a little disgusted

my engine didn't go, but my a4 gave out the other day and is dipping into my Catastrophic Engine Failure reserves.
if my engine or rear end give out next, my ss will be collecting dust for a few months.

gotta give gm credit for producing cars that put out enough power to break themselves

Well I know mine was done right as far as the cam swap goes as this was not the first time I have done one. As far as the to much nitrous, I didn't even get a full bottle through it and it was tuned on the rich side also so that was done as safe a possible also.
