Mine is not ported nor is it in the car yet. The +10 psi spring is in the pump, but they include a stock psi spring if you want to use it instead. The +15% volume is quoted as non-ported. I am not going to bother porting mine.

I love the higher psi, at least I know my ls1 is getting lubed.
No complaints here, dont see how it robs power but if it does I still clocked 393hp on the mustang dyno.

I called Lingenfelter's on this issue. They told me that you only needed a ported oil pump when you ran additional clearance on the crank bearings. Otherwise, you only needed a stock type oil pump, including a standard Mellings.
Mellings come with two different springs, red and blue. The red one will give higher pressure and is designed to be used with an external oil cooler or external oil filter. The blue spring will still give the extra volume but more stock pressure. Take it from me, I have the red spring in and will be changing it to the blue one. I have 70psi at idle which is way too much pressure and it will peg at WOT. Too much pressure at WOT can blow the oil filter off.

I like how melling does some R&D and comes up with a solution for more serious (external oil cooler/filter) motors.
I have a stock 98 pump now, and I hope it lives, but when it does die, I will buy a Melling w/ the blue spring...

i still dont know what pump to use
stock ls6
ported ls6 from tsp
or the mellings part number 156-10296 from thunder racing (non ported)
im going to change the pump when i do my cam swap and the car might see some n20 later on. i think im leaning towards the melling non ported for 148.99.

Just get the standard melling oil pump. Plenty of people run them without issues and they have a great price.
Or get the standard LS6, ported if you want to spend the extra money. I got the SLP pump and SLP double roller chain and I have great pressure. If money not an issue I think you'll be fine with either the melling or LS6 ported preferably or unported. Many people run the standard LS6 unported as long as your setup isn't too extreme you'll be fine. Pick, order, install and enjoy, quit worrying
