Lifter swap writeup
Can anyone or does anyone do, or have a write up on how to swap lifters. It seems pretty self explanitory by looking at it, but i dont wanto run into0 any problems, and i would like to read something about what people did taking off there intake and those other parts and how they did it... I dont wanto not think about something and mess something up.

oh no i just saw the pictures. This is like the worst news i have ever gotten. Do you think its possible to unbolt the heads, and loosen the headers but not unthread the bolt completley, and swap them that way?...

Just unbolt your headers totally and let them hang to the side. Taking the heads off completely is the only way. One of my lifters wouldn't stay up during my cam swap, so I am going to have to pull the heads. Since I was going to have to buy new head bolts and gaskets anyway, I decided to upgrade my lifters and heads too. Not saying it's that much of an undertaking to pull the heads, but since you've have them off, may as well upgrade.

im just very tight for money and im f-in pissed off that i gotto go through that. Its not like the small blocks of the past where you could just pull off the intake i dont know why they would desighn the block to not be able to get the lifters that way. Im so angry cuz i only got them because my dad told me i didnt have to pull off the heads, but on the genIII engines i guess you do.

Why are ya replacing the lifters? GM designed the LSX block the way they did partly because lifters are rarely replaced when it comes to the average engine in service and when it comes to rollers the cam swaps doesnt require lifter replacement. Its also a stronger block because of the lifter valley webbing that it creates.

yhea im starting to weigh out the price of simply replacing the lifters, im considering not doing it, but when my dad told me i might as well replace them cuz it was easy, i went out and bough them, so now i have them, but just to put them in will cost me 100 in gaskets and bolts.

do you think i should spend the money to replace them, because, ehh idk it does have 98 k miles.... its just such a pain in the ***. Also does anyone know if the spring compressor tool will be adequite to change the springs, my dad tried to use it on his sbc but it didnt work cuz he said he had double springs and thats what im getting too, but i was reading and when u buy a tool u have to specify if u want it for gen 1 and 2 or a gen 3 engine, so maybe itll work on mine specially cuz its slp and made for the f body. does anyone know?

yeah, def. get the crane LS1 spring tool. very easy to use. well worth the money.
and I agree, the lifter design SUCKS. but thats pretty much the only draw back to the LS1 design compared to a SBC. cant have it all I guess.
if you look up the head swap writeup, that will show you everything you need to know with lots of pics and every torque spec you'll need. I dont have the page saved on my computer at work. if noones posted the link to the heads/cam writeup I'll do it later when I get home for ya. nothing too hard, but it does require some special tools and is time consuming.

Can someone post a link for the crane ls1 spring tool?.... And yhes i saw the link for the heads, but, i dont have the money to buy the bolts and gaskets, a barley have enough to do this, plus if i took the heads off i would have to get the ported or sumthing, too much temptation. Ill either keep the lifters or sell them to whoever wants them.... BUT i would still like the link to the crane ls1 spring remover
