Default Thermostat

Im looking at getting a 160 degree thermostat in my 2000 trans am and i was wanting to know if there is anything i have to do or do i just drop it in and go any help is great

you will need to reprogram the computer for the 160 thermostat otherwise it will not do ya a whole lot of good

you mean tune the fans right?

You can just drop it in, and the car will run just fine. A tune will help seeing as how it will change the turning on of the fans, but a thermostat is a mechanical device, no tune needed.

You can just drop it in, and it wil not be of any concern or benefit.

Your engine will just take longer to warm up. but the fans will not turn on until it reaches the high temp range. The engine will continue to run in the 195-210 range even with the 160 t-stat.

It might run a bit cooler at highway speeds, as the t-stat will not close util it goes below 160 deg. But around town/traffic and racing.. it will remain in the 195-210 range (as set my the fans coming on and off)

To a search and I think you will find some information on what range the PCM will turn on and off at. I just saw a few within the last week or so.
