I doubt removing the valley cover will get you anywhere. You're going to need to pull the timing cover off and try to get the dowel out the way it went in. Worst case scenario you will need to pull the head and the lifters to reach down and grab it but it'll probably still need to slide out the front.

A few hours ago I went to look for ls1 bare blocks. Just need to remove the tranny and there´s a way to get to these holes from the back, so if I cant remove it with a long tread I bought, I will get the tranny down and push it out, thanks to everyone and dont make my same mistake please. Buy the JRP tool or pull the heads out. Hope this will save someone from getting stuck like me and I'm not saying it will not work, just it didnt work for me. It's like the russian roulette method works for some and not for others.

Thanks for your opinions

Because anytime someone asks about using the rods to hold lifters up during a cam install, just about everyone says to just go to Home Depot and buy 5/16" diameter wood dowel rods and use them.

I have one of the very very early sets of the JPR tool. I got those suckers stuck in my block. They told me later there is a slight differance in 98-99 and 00+. I used them in a 99 first and they worked great. got them stuck in my 2000. They said the first ones did not have a needed chamfer and they would repllace mine. I still haven't called them yet and that was like 3 years ago

I searched on here and that was the most reccomended method. I bought two 5/16" dowel rods from Walmart for $0.66. I sanded the ends to a point and they slid in and out perfect. They were in the car for a total of 5 minutes. Mine went in so smooth that I wonder why yours messed up. I guess it was a slight gamble, but a lot of members have used dowel rods and this is the first case I have seen of someone getting one stuck. If your worried about it, lube it up with some oil.
