Default Cracked Block????

anyone here ever hear of cracking an lsx block because of too much power or running your engine over 5500 rpm? I was told by a guy at a reputable machine shopp that the lsx engines were not built to handle anything over 400-500 hp before they become susseptible to cracking breaking rods etc. I thought the lsx blocks were the coolest **** since sliced bread. Lets hear some opinions, or better yet facts.

Your reputable guy is a moron. There are countless LS motors on this site running 7000 rpm's plus with wild head and cam kits makng well over 500 flywheel hp. Some are even spraying on top of that. Stock blocks with stock cranks, with forged rods and pistons, will go beyond what any street car wants to do with it.

There was even one guy, I believe it was Roofer Dave, who ran a stock LS1 block, forged rods and pistons, stock crank into the 7's with over 1000rwhp.

Mighty Mouse was using a LS2 block and making 1000rwhp..

The blocks will go to 1000hp, so will the cranks.. the rods and pistons will not, they give around 500-700.

well the reason i ask is the shop has my motor and at only 50k miles it spun a bearing and he told me that the lsx engines are notorious for having that problem. I bought the car because i thought the ls series engines were the best thing smoking

spun bearings are the result of either bad oiling/ low oil or you don't have the upgraded rod bolts. 01-02 cars have the better rod bolts and spin high rpm ***** nilly with no worries. 97-00 cars, the bolts are lower tensile and can actually stretch allowing a bearing to spin if the rpm's get too high.
