Default 2003 LS6 Heads any good?

I have a friend with a set of these for sale. I have a 2000 Z28 w/ bolt-ons and a Torquer v.2 232/234 .595 .598 112lsa. What would the gains be? Is it worth the money?

hey if they are fully assembled and cheap get um, all u need to do is get them shaved down alittle to bump the compression i wouldnt bother getting them ported for the money its gonna cost(compared to buying aftermarket castings ported) just get them shaved with that cam u will be making good power throughout the band dont focus on the peak as it will only be around 410-415ish assuming u have other supporting mods but your down low and midrange will be killer! i had a set of those on my 98 with the exact same cam peak numbers werent great but like i said down low that car got up and went! i hope this helps you btw im in the havelock new bern area.

they've got PRC duals on them and he wants $500ish. I'm not in to peak #s, more interested in under the curve power.
How much should I deck them?
what size head gasket should I use?
Will my stock rockers work with these?
and what are the casting/serial #s I should be looking for?

casting number is 243...your stock rockers should work...and I picked up some Felpro head gaskets from Jegs along with some ARP bolts, spent a bit on them but definetly worth the money. For 500, they are worth your money. Cartridge rolling heads like that can go a long way.

Do you remember if the Felpro head gaskets were stock size or custom. I'm seriously considering this right now.

hey tainted, how much should I mill them, what would the CR be bumped to, and do you know of any good shops in town that would be able to do the work?

If you swap those heads onto your LS1, it'll increase the compression ratio to 10.5:1 compared to 10.1:1. Milling them .030" will increase your compression ratio to 11.1:1.

That is great for under the curve power and down low torque!

I think the springs are worth $250-$275 alone.

Are there ANY downsides to 11.1:1 CR? I realize I'll have to use ONLY 93+ octane.
Will I have to fly cut w/ a Tv.2 Cam?
Any worries spraying N2O?

Is there any way to tell if the heads had been previously milled?

I am thinking of milling my ls6 heads with the Torquer 3, does any one know how much you can mill with out having PTV issues?
Or maybe running a thinner gasket?

I'd definitely get the LS6 heads!

Theres nothing wrong with running an 11.1:1 CR.

I'm running 11.5:1 and I'm fine with 93 octane.

Always check PTV. Maybe shorter P-rods. The mill doesnt have to be more than .030 normally.

i bought brank new 243 casting for $395, stock valves for $25, and patriot springs for like $250. If the springs are almost new, it wouldn't be a bad deal. If the springs have 15k-20k miles on them i would just buy new ones IMO...
