i just pulled both heads and its not the lifters they are fine... im puttin it back together and filing an insurance claim on it. assuming its not the cam dowel. i will pull the timing cover and see. but i doubt its the dowel. i will compare it to my stock cam real quick and verify.

this is what worries me... this is cylinder number 5 and 7 they are equal as far as height....

and here is the lifters they are fine...

Hate to tell you this, but it looks like you have a rod bearing problem with the piston on the right. Bearing gets worn, allows some clearance between the journal and the bearing and on the exhaust stroke the piston rod assembly will be flung up towards the head allowing it to touch, which is what looks like is happening in that pic of the pistons... In addition to the obvious p/v contact. FYI, if the cam gear did fall off at engine speed, you would p/v interference as the valves stopped moving and the pistons did not.

Well they are just press fitted in there. It probably is just one of those freak deals & you were on the recieving end. I haven't heard of anyone else with the Trex having this issue, so I'd doubt it's a defect. I'd put my money on bad luck man.

Improper tq on the 3 cam gear bolts or maybe you didnt use loctite on them. Once the bolts came slightly loose it caused enough vibration to allow the dowel to wiggle its way out.

Now please send my $20 to my paypal acct since I told you it was the dowel.

or the incorrect locktite. There is a high temperature locktite that you are supposed to use with the cam gear bolts.

You're not supposed to torque the '****' out of them. you're supposed to torque them to 18lb/ft. There's a reason for that

And yes, you need the dowl pin. But I dont hink you're listening to everyone. Dont bother putting the motor back together, you'll be pissing in the wind. Pull it, salvage what you can, and throw the rest away. Use it as a learning experience and an excuse to go big cubes like everyon esle

No, and you should get a new one. hopefully the cam and cam gear are not wallowed out as well. Also you can paypal me as well since I was at least the first person to publically say it was the cam dowel. Only problem is you may not be able to afford it right away since you still have other issues to deal with. The valves that hit the pistons are most likely bent and should most likely be replaced. At the bare minimum you need to pull both heads, pull the valves that hit the pistons (or all of them) and get them checked. Also, you need to pull your oil pan and check at least the rod bearings on the pair of rods that share the journal with the one that is attached to the piston that touched the head (has the carbon wiped off in the shape of the combustion chamber).

Did you thoroughly clean the bolts and bolt holes? If you didn't clean any residual oil, all the Loctite in the world won't do any good as it can't adhere to the threads.
