Default valve size?

i have a set of 806 heads and plan on p&p them myself. my question is should i go with 2.02 valves or 2.05 valves? is it worth increasing valve size? what size are the stock valves? should i leave the stock exhaust valves? i'm doing this on a buget and thats why i'm doing the p&p myself plus i would like the experience. i will be using a tr230 cam with my setup. any input would be great.

I did my own port and polish on my 241 heads. I left the stock valves in because I couldnt justify spending 300 - 400 bucks on something that might not even flow well. Between the porting and milling I picked up somewhere around 25 HP. Im sure I could have picked up another 5 HP with larger valves, but its still a lot of money when the heads are essentially free.

Oh yeah, stock sizes are 2.00 and 1.55, with a three angle factory valve job.

Leave the stock valves alone. Take the heads and have a good valve job done on them and slap them on. Be careful, you can destroy the port if you are not careful. good luck!

BTW stock valve size is 2.00

thanks for the advice and info guys i'm still not sure what i'm gonna do.igot a guy in town that will do a valve job for $150 and he says he can install 2.02 valves when he does the valve job. he told me he can save the valve seats and just grind them to 2.02 is that possible without replacing the seats? i also found rev stainless vavles for $75 so i'm undecided on what to do. i can afford to spend the $225 and i was gonna have a valve job done anyway for that price.

well, considering the very good price, it could be worth it to you. Yes, you can install 2.02 and 1.6 valves on the stock seats, IIRC. Larger Int and Exh valves will probably only gain you 5 HP or so, maybe less if youre just doing the intake valves. You have to decide if its worth it.

Go with the stock valves especially if you are on a budget. With a good valve job and some bowl work, you will see some nice results.

Thanks a lot guys. think i;m just gonna do a p&p and a valve job and thats it. can't see spending the extra money for 5hp. i might have them milled though.

Which heads are better? 241's OR 806's. Reason being because i have 806's on my 98 now and have a chance of picking up a set of 241's for $150. Either set is going to be p&p and ready for cam and valvetrain upgrade.

from the research i've done anyone correct me if i'm wrong but the 241's are better but with good port work 806's can be just as good. i'm doing 806's because i got them for almost free.

Yeah, 241s are better stock for stock, but wont make much difference once ported.

Dam that sucks. So i should've just spent the money to port my 806 castings instead of buying the 241's for the same reason.

well, its nice to have the center bolt heads anyway... The 241's used the semi permanent mold process and they have a smoother texture, but that wont matter once ported. Not sure if the material was any thicker in the 241's vs. 806's.
