Default 2nd new motor.. found metal shavings

im on my second new forged motor just changed the oil at about 1500 miles on the new build. found metal shavings and what seemed like sludge build up on the end of the oil plug? these shavings were rather small but is this a concern? or is this normal for a new motor break in.

Yes, It is some concern depending on what they are from and where it has gotten. What kind of metal is it ?(Alu, iron, steel)

Best answer that I would hope for is, It could be shavings left from the machining and found its way into the oil gallery and is now being fushed out. Maybe even some thread from the bolt and nut.

Hopefully none of it has found it way into the bearings. Open the Oil Filter to see what you find there.

A good engine built would include a good cleaning of all oil gallery's.

This is why I usually change the oil/filter after about 25 miles or less after startup of a new engine.

If they are alum.. they would not stick to the magnet drain plug? they may stick in some grease or sluge (but why would you have any?).

After inital startup and heat cycle, change oil and filter. This will clean out any shavings or pieces of metal lift over from machining (USE REGULAR OIL)

Change it again after 25 miles. This is the period of time where the rings do the majority of the seating. (USE REGULAR OIL)

Change it again after 100 miles. (USE REGULAR OIL)

Change it again after 1000 miles. (USE WHAT EVER OIL YOU WANT)
