I ran my LS6 cam for around 5-8K miles, can't really remember now. I used 02 LS6 springs, stock retainers and pushrods with stock 241 02 heads. I ringed it out to 6500rpms with no problems or increased valvetrain noise. If I remember correctly the LS6 cam base circle was .027" smaller than the LS1. In that case you would need a 7.427" pushrod to achieve perfect valvetrain geometry when using the LS6 cam with stock LS1 heads and valves.

if you're not 100% set on the ls6 cam, then I'd recommend a cam slightly "smaller" than the 224 so that you will not have to worry AT ALL about smog (people do still fail sometimes with the 224 in Ca, it's true), and you will have your torque peak lower. This cam that I just picked up (218/224 .555/.556 115+4) is supposed to have monster low end torque. I saw one dyno test where the guy made 30-40rwtq over his rwhp. Anyways even if you get the ls6 cam, it will be a good improvement, just not as much as you "could" have.

Hmmm...I always thought that degreeing a cam meant using a degree wheel and a dial indicator to verify valve event timing. Then, if neccessary, the cam could be advanced or retarded, although I think you need a cam gear that supports such small degree changes (4 degrees). Someone please correct me if my thoughts are incorrect.

You are correct Todd. I was just about to chime in with that. Degreeing the cam is just to verify that it is where it's supposed to be. I've installed a cam 'straight up' that when degreed came out 2 degrees retarded.
