Head Question
Head Question Are a couple of scratches ok on the head surface before mount them? I ran my finger across them and they dont seem to be grooved at all. It looks like the previous owner may have scraped with something hard to remove the gasket on a few places. I will be using stock GM MLS head gaskets.

probably ok. gaskets seal chamer to cyl. and water passages. if these areas are ok then dont worry too much. i would still rub them down a little it emery cloth or something light to smooth it out.
I just bought some new 243's off ebay and there was a scratch on the sealing surface of the head. I brought it to a machine shop near me to get it decked. Just to get it decked I think it was $30. I payed more to get other stuff done as well.
I think with MLS you need a very good mating surface, graphite is supposed to be a lot more forgiving.

coat all of the following with a good coat of copper gasket sealant spray for a lil added protection, heads/deck, and both sides of the gasket and you shouldn't have any problems at all. I actually used a tube of the ford diesel head gasket silicone stuff to make sure my heads sealed completely. That stuff seals so well it's unbelieveable. We are using the same stuff on a SBF running 35 lbs of boost and it hasn't lifted the heads yet...

GM MLS, do not spray copper sealant.
If you cannot feel it with your nail and it doesn't run into a water jacket, don't worry.
Good advice was getting them decked .003>.005
Just make sure if you deck that it fits your AZP cam (valve size etc...)

I would really rather just get a custom grind cam for this combo. I having a hard time getting info if there will be any clearance issues and I think it would make more power with a differrent cam.
