Default What is best to clean the top of the block.

Im changing my heads up and was wondering what I should use to clean the gasket and junk off the top of the block with to get a smooth surface.
Engine block is in the car and will remain in there.

I have been told a razor and scotchbrite?? Not sure on stotchbrite pad.

thanks

Careful not to score the aluminum with a razor (I used a "plastic" blade) but some have used ice scrapers. If you score the aluminum which is easier than you may think you'll blow the gasket or worse.
