Default Need help diagnosing a problem

The car has 104k on it, and its been kept up well. The car is having this new problem. The car is idling really rough, like it has a cam, while its idling like this the gas smell is really prevelant like im dumping way to much gas. What could be causing this problem?

Also, sometimes it picks up its normal idle and then goes back to sputtering. If that helps any. It idles around 950 normally, but with this new smell and sputter its around 800

A guy I know said his Trans Am started running alittle rough and sputtering. He ran some SeaFoam through his engine to clean it out and was pleased with the results. Said it idles smooth again. Is it throwing any codes?

appreciate the help guys, I dont think its the fuel filter because at full throttle its fine. I'll run some seafoam again, but I did that about 3 months ago. Im thinkin its the MAF or O2s can anyone chime in if theyve had this problem?

If it does it straight away at startup, you can rule out the o2. They only come into play during closed loop.

front o2's... get the corvette rear o2's for them, bosch part # 13111 ... there i thnk like 65 or 75 a piece.

if those are bad or not working properly they will cause a problem... i had a bad one and my car was eating gas amounst other things.

the rear o2's i wouldnt bother with... they don't effect your car just give you an SES light... get em tuned out or buy some o2 sims.

OK, so this problem started AFTER you installed headers? I think I'd take a close look at those spark plug wires. Listen for a ticking sound. Run the engine at night in an area when there is no ambient light. Watch for arcing.

Nah, its not the plug wires. It runs fine when its cold. It has to be the o2s because when it goes closed loop it idles funky. And I've had the headers on for 3 months without problems.

Ya it's your o2's same thing has happened to me a couple times, as soon as you get into the gas it clears right up. Do like 98_formula said and put the bosch part # 13111 in I haven't killed them yet.
